Then one day Larry was pointed in a new direction when a man selling a mail order item came into his office and saw some inspirational quotes on his wall.  This man then opened up and shared some knowledge with Larry that led him to meet a man named Lester Levenson who would forever change his life!

I’m with  Academy Award-Winning Actress Olympia Dukakis who has said, “I’m so glad Susun Weed exists!”

Susun didn’t grow up wanting to be an herbalist, per se, yet even as a child nature called. Having lived just a few short blocks from the Dallas City Zoo, Susun would lie in her bed at night and fall asleep to the lullabye of the trumpeting elephants and hooting monkeys and awaken to the lions’ roars. 

In the early 1960’s she went on to UCLA, hoping to major in mathematics, yet nature had its own plan again.  After visiting Planned Parenthood and being put on the pill Susun later missed her menses and felt sick with queasiness only to be told she definitely was not pregnant – after all, she was on the newest contraceptive pill.  5 months later, however, she felt a baby kick which of course caused an anomaly for the UCLA Medical Center and their interns who wondered what might happen next.

Being who she is and knowing what Susun has always said - that nature is incredibly rich and incredibly giving, - she vowed to give up scientific drugs and healthily gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Justine. 

Raising her baby girl didn’t always come easy. There never seemed to be enough money around, yet she always seemed to get by --- teaching some community college classes and continuing to keep the dream of creating a place where women could feel safe, could be healed, and could be reunited with their power again.

One day in the early 70’s, after picking up a pregnant woman who was holding a baby and hitchhiking, Susun helped her do her laundry and learned they both shared a passion for plants and herbs. Since this woman was also looking to earn more income, Susun talked her into teaching a college class on herbal medicine which sychronistically later got passed on to her where she taught for many years - until the day she was told she was “no longer wanted” and had to create a new life for herself, so she persevered and gathered together a class of 4 women who were in attendance that first day out.


The more Susun worked, the more she taught, and the more she listened, until it became clear she needed to be more specific about exactly what she wanted to do, what she wanted to offer, and what she wanted to nurture in the world.

Since then he has embarked on a lifelong quest to find ways to successfully manage chronic pain, treating patients who have otherwise been labeled as 'untreatable' and following his intuition to conclude that many patients being treated for chronic pain are also clinically depressed with low levels of DHEA - a hormone made by the adrenal glands located just above the kidneys.

Norm's wonderment and gifted mind had the need to make this connection so concrete, he went on to pursue and achieve his Ph.D. in psychology  as well as a Doctor of Science degree which led him on a path to discover something truly amazing – that in fact, with or without chronic pain, all depressed persons show a low level of DHEA and by naturally raising their DHEA levels without the use of drugs or medications, depression will disappear.

In 1971 Dr. Shealy founded the first comprehensive pain and stress management clinic in the world. The Shealy Institute was recognized for several years as the most successful and most cost effective pain clinic in the U.S. with over a 30 year period of treating over 30,000 chronically ill patients with a remarkable 85% success rate.

Our Spring of 2011 Soul-Felt Spirituality and Wellness Series Keynote speaker was Dr. Deborah Rozman, Ph.D.  - a behavioral psychologist, business executive, educator, and author.  

In 1991, alongside Doc Childre, Debbie helped co-found and create the HeartMath System for heart-based living and have co-authored four HeartMath books designed to transform negative situations and emotions into forces for positive, productive energy.  Clients include Duke Medicine, Stanford Hospital, Mayo Health System, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, among many other organizations that are using this scientifically validated solution for stress by helping hundreds of thousands of individuals experience life-changing results.

Since childhood, Debbie learned to follow her heart, looking for what is fulfilling and what it means to be of service.  Since the age of 14, she knew she wanted to be a psychologist and now has more than 30 years experience in the field.  Her best selling book called Meditating with Children has helped her not only specialize in holistic education but also become President and co-CEO of Quantum Intech, Incorporated, as she assists with the global expansion of HeartMath, serving on their scientific advisory board, as well as on the Physics of Humanity council and the Global Coherence Initiative steering committee which helps bring coherence to the earth so planetary healing can occur.

Debbie works with others on transformation, believing strongly in connecting the head and the heart for co-creation.  She believes in heart-coherence so much in fact, she now helps teach others how to confidently know and discern the difference between following the heart and following an emotional pull.
