Dr. Joan Borysenko, Ph.D.

"Michelle, Thank you so much.  What an absolute honor and privilege it has been to be with you... to experience your incredible curious and open nature and the wonderful questions you ask to bring each speaker out." - Dr. Joan Borysenko, Ph.D.

After graduating magna cum laude from college, Dr. Joan Borysenko earned her doctorate in Medical Sciences from the Harvard Medical School, where she completed post-doctoral training in cancer cell biology.  After the death of her father from cancer, she then became very interested in the person with the illness rather than the disease itself, so she returned to Harvard Medical School to study the field of behavioral medicine, working under the tutelage of Dr. Herbert Benson, M.D., who brought meditation into medicine using relaxation response.

Dr. Joan then went on to receive a third post-doctoral fellowship in psycho-neuro-immunology -- the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the human body, co-founding a Mind/Body clinic with Dr. Benson and Dr. Ilan Kutz--> and became a licensed psychologist and an appointed instructor in medicine at the Harvard Medical School.

Her years of clinical research and experience later culminated into a New York Times best seller called, Minding the Body, Mending the Mind, which sold over 400,000 copies.

Since then she has authored or co-authored over a dozen other books on healing, inner peace, and the spiritual journey, along with numerous audio programs and guided meditations, including appearances on Public Television and her latest book called Fried

Dr. Joan is a Founding Partner of Mind/Body Health Sciences located in Boulder, Colorado and the former Director of The Claritas Institute InterSpiritual Mentor Training Program, and current host of the Hay House Internet radio show called Your Soul’s Compass.

Joan is a beautiful mother and a wife, residing in the Rocky Mountains out in nature where she feels so connected to her truth, often working side-by-side with her devoted husband, Dr. Gordon Dveirin.

Her signature story is known well around the world.  . After watching a scary movie at the age of 10 , she began having nightmares that would haunt her night after night … so much so she began to experience hallucinations which later developed into two serious mental illnesses:  obsessive compulsive disorder and a psychotic state.

Dr. Joan describes this altered state of reality as both shamanic and scary -- a spiritual experience that has helped her achieve a deep sense of connectedness to other realms of consciousness.
