Bernie Siegel, M.D.

"Michelle, What you’re doing is great. The topics blend together well and are about who we are, which is what we all need to learn.” - Dr. Bernie Siegel, M.D.

Dr. Bernie Siegel, M.D. is a retired general/pediatric surgeon who is closely involved and often credited for connecting mind and body health.   “Bernie” - his preferred known name - studied medicine at Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College (holding membership in two scholastic honor societies, graduating with honors). His surgical training took place at Yale New Haven Hospital, West Haven Veterans Hospital, and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Since 1978 Bernie has been pioneering new approaches for mind body healing, often working with cancer patients using innovative methods for survival behavior to include guided imagery, therapeutic drawing, and self induced healing.

Bernie is the weekly radio show host of Mind, Health Matters.  He is one of the world's foremost doctors, a multi-book best-selling author, motivational speaker and loving advocate for individuals facing chronic illnesses.
Bernie is a father of 5, a grandparent of 8, and a husband to wife Bobbie for over 50 years.  As a child, he describes himself as an artist... Knowing he had this creative talent, loved science, was good at working with his hands, and also liked to fix things, he went on to become a surgeon – a career his mother later shared was something he had talked about since the age of 7.

In the past, Bernie has described himself as a real skeptic -- not believing in things like energy medicine or meditational encounters and healings.  Yet like so many people who seek proof from the outside and then experience in from within, he has had some huge A-ha’s…

First having his wife opened his mind to holistic healing by asking a holistic medical lecturer to help him with a leg that he had injured while training for a marathon.  The healer's hands, Bernie says, "had such intense heat and energy that 5 minutes later I walked away totally healed."

Another a-ha was when Bernie went to a conference led by Carl Simonton. Thinking this was geared toward cancer doctors, he was surprised to learn he was the only medical doctor there but was encouraged to close his eyes and ask for his inner-guide to come forth.

Pretending to meditate, Bernie closed his eyes only to have his creative clairvoyant gifts come to life as he experienced an encounter with a guide named George who has been with him ever since.

From past life consciousness, to angel encounters, to many personal insights, these experiences have made Bernie the witty, kind hearted, and compassionate person I know him to be today.

After retiring from general and pediatric surgical practice in 1989, Bernie has continued breaking new ground in facilitating healing processes where he continues to share his many stories including “faith, hope & healing… inspiring lessons learned from people living with cancer," "365 prescriptions for the soul," and "101 exercises for the soul."

He continues today to dedicate himself to humanizing the medical establishment's interactions with patients and empowering individuals to play a greater role in the healing process, encouraging them to always move in the direction that feels good.
